Our Mission

We believe that finding work as a carer should be easy. We think that you should control when you work and how much you work for. We understand that you know your clients and will do what is best for them.

Why we care

We care about how we look after the most vulnerable in our society. We want to revolutionise the way social care works, bringing carers and people who need care into the market by lowering the price and providing more choice to clients and carers alike.

How we care

We make it easy for you to find the right clients for you in your area and put you in control of your time. The whole processed can be arranged online and we support you when you need it.

What we do

We give clients the ability to contact you easily and request your services at an hourly rate you control. We help you build up a portfolio of clients and enable you to work entirely for yourself.

About us

In 2015 James visited his mum for dinner. Rather than being her usual cheery self, she was clearly upset. During the conversation, it became apparent that her role, as his grandad’s principal carer, was causing her a great deal of stress and grief. During his grandad's care, a number of care agency staff visited him. These were expensive and poorly trained. When she found a carer that worked well, they were soon replaced, due to scheduling constraints or other issues. James realised that this was a deeply embedded issue in old-fashioned care agencies.

When James’ mum confided in her friends, she was told about the benefits of using independent carers. However, upon trying them, the work involved in scheduling and administrating independent care was too much for her to manage. As the problem played out in his head, James knew there had to be a solution that took advantage of the technology he had grown up with, and so Helper was founded. His goal; to give people access to high-quality care at an affordable price.

James Bowdler

I started this business to care for the vulnerable in our society. I saw the way the care system fails patients, families, and workers and want to fix that. I also enjoy watching rugby and reading about economics and history.

I'm in charge of the technology behind Helper. My goal is to give our users a smooth, stable and secure experience with up-to-date technology. When I'm not developing, I write about hiking and build stuff out of wood.

We believe in a better model of care

How it works

We connect you with clients and give you the tools and support to work at a time that suits you, and a wage that you deserve.

This leaves you with 4 simple steps

Clients will get in touch with you to discuss their needs and get to know you. Be honest with them about what you can and can’t do and be open with them about your interests and availability.

Once you have agreed to work together, arrange the first visit at a time that works for you. Then we handle the contracting and payments online, simplifying the whole process for you.

Deliver care in their home. Treat this as a trial visit to make sure that you get along face to face and are happy with the care provided. Make sure that you can do what is required and are able to get on with the patient and their family.

Provide your client with a brief report on each visit, so that you have a full record of the work that has been done.

Get in touch with your client and ask if they would like to arrange visits on an ongoing basis with them.
